One of the best ways to tell... and it's been pointed out on this board numerous times before ... is to WATCH what he looks at.
Have lunch with him, or something like that, and just pay attention (don't stare) to his eyes. If he's interested in guys, he'll inevitably check them out even while he's with you - UNLESS - he's totally into girls, OR he's totally infatuated with YOU (in this case you'll find that he might pay inordinate attention to your eyes/face).

 Ok now... do he know that you are gay? if so and he is sending you mix signal he may be curious if not gay, just sit and talk with him if he know that you are gay it would not a surprise to him he may be waiting for you to make the first step... I say go for it.

AWWW thats so sweet. But anyway i think you should try asking him if he has a girlfriend or had any resent(and how resent)and no matter what Don't have a silence (unless its by him and he looks at you in the I LOVE YOU way). but yah Try doing that.Or If he is really your like besties you should just ask him and he might understand and except you(Who knows he might be gay or bi).
