I'm concerned about my 19 year old niece lusting after her married professor

A male age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I'm the uncle of a 19 yr old girl that is a college student. From childhood, I've been like a best friend to her. However, her recent behaviour's disturbing me. She's apparently head over heels over this prof of hers that is EIGHTEEN years her senior and married. She keeps asking me for tips to impress him. I don't want to report her parents since I don't want to break her trust, but this bothers me. Please tell me how I could whack some sense into her.

Sageoldguy1465 agony auntTeh closest you can come to "whacking some sense in to her.." is to tell her that her infatuation is silly, childish and ill-fated.... and that you don't wish to partake of discussing it with her any more....

Good luck....

A female reader, anonymous, writes (5 February 2012):

just tell her you don't know any tips on how she can impress a professor - tell her that professors are stodgy and boring people (not true necessarily but you can tell her that).

look it's probably just harmless fun and just a passing crush on her part, so I think you're overreacting. And even if she did try to impress him, so what? let her try, there's nothing wrong with it. it's the professor's responsibility not to behave inappropriately since he is married and in the position of authority.
