Im 16 and have this huge ambition to be a succesful film actor. I really believe I can do it. The dream fills me with adrenaline and I cant stop thinking about it. But Im scared of leaving the security of home to do it, and my parents dont have faith in me. I believe its almost inevitable that I will do it. Im audtioning for a new play this month for a local theatre but im so nervous. My only problem is my nerves. Help1

Jadzia1127 agony aunt The best way for nerves is to be prepared, and in acting that is your auditioning skills.

Your skills do not vary from Day to day, luck does. You can twist luck in your favor by being prepared and working on the skills that the director will be looking for.

You should be working on your pronunciation, projection of your voice, and your personal character quality.

Pronunciation is not over pronouncing things it it is clearly pronouncing each word, DO NOT MUMBLE.

Projecting your voice isn't screaming but being heard over the hum of equipment, and audience to be heard in the back row clearly.

Your quality of character is who you are at the least and more importantly who the director wants you to be. Don't be shy, but be polite, be enthusiastic, be flexible, don't care what anyone thinks of you, and look for a way to be comical in auditioning (directors often remember people who can make them laugh).

Good touches that make a director take notice is if

1.you memorized your lines in the few minutes you have had them.

2. If a song is required for audition make it one that is not popular so you don't have to compete with how the director thinks it should sound.

If you are confident in your skills it will show in your audition. A director will not cast someone they don't think they can work with or won't work with others.

When you get the part then you work on dialog development, Body positioning in blocking, character development, and character purpose. You should know your character like a best friend and mimic her before you ever get on stage.

Theres tons of exercises you can do to make you sing and dance and act your best before hand. Lots of actors do this before an opening show as well- on eis to pretend your fingers are candles and blow them out one by one- this lets your lungs adjust to get the most air. Also alot of actors just jump up and down and wiggle their limbs- like runners do before a cross country run. it lets you get neverous energy out and pipe you up a bit. Dont feel nervous- everyone else is in the same ball park as you- just consider it one of those experieinces- you can meet people and show your skills- and of course your skills will vary on a day to day bais- so dont worry. if yo want to be a successful film actor- you have to get over local theater productions first... Just put your chin up and conquer them!Hope this helps...
