I'm a nerd, he's popular. I'm shy, we aren't friends. So how do I tell him I like him?

A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I am a very quiet girl at school, and am considered one of the nerds of 8th grade. But I really like this guy, and he is way more popular then me. I want to tell him how I feel, but I am VERY shy, and I'm too afraid to do it. We aren't really friends, because I only started liking him 3 years ago, and he would probably suspect something if I tried to become his friend. Also, he talks to me occasionally, and looks at me during class a lot. Is he interested in me? What do I do?

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (1 February 2010):

The Realist agony auntSlip him a note or send him a message, something where there you can be open and honest and his friends stay out of it. I can't say for sure that he is interested but he does know that you exist so that counts for something. If you give him a note then all you have to do is wait for his reply. The worst that he would do is say he doesn't have the same feelings for you so you don't have anything to lose.

Best of luck.
