 Well if you went to school together youve allready got a way in for a talking point. You should try and find out about him, he may be in a relationship already.
You could go along with the pretense of finding out about the education then suddly use the "dont I know you" line if he says no, just bring up the name of the your old school. Get chatting a bit more and on closure if you still want to see him you could tell him you live in the area and if he fancied a drink one night to catch up then call you and give him your number.
