I want to marry this guy, but my parents don't exactly approve. What can I do?

i am in love with this i have know for 8yrs. we both want to get married to each other. his family is fine with the same, but mine is a bit upset, firstly because my sister had a love marriage and even though the guy is nice, but he really doesnt respect my parents. so thay are afraid of comitting the same mistake. the second reason is that mine and my boyfriends profession dont match. i have told my parents that we are not in touch, but we are. i really dont wish to hurt them and at the same time dont know what to do. please help

Perhaps if your parents knew him a little better beforehand, it would ease their worries. Have you considered moving in with your boyfriend? If not, that would be the best type of trial run for both you and your parents. It's nearly impossible for people to misrepresent themselves under those circumstances, so your parents should be comforted that you know exactly what you're getting into. By turn, they'll be informed, too.
