Question - (9 February 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 9 February 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I've been interested in this guy for about 6 months now and I think I may well be falling for him. I always got the impression that he was keen on me, so it wasn't a huge surprise when two of our mutual friends both texted me and said that he wanted to get together with me sometime. He suggested to my friend that we go on a double date and named a day and venue. Unfortunately, it didnt work out and we both ended up meeting up at another function where there was already a crowd of people around. Then two weeks later I found out that he had started seeing someone else (thinking that I wasn't that interested in him in the first place). I was gutted. That was last december. Since then, my friend told me that said girl was making his life a bit of a misery and he was wanting to split up with her.

I have seen him a number of times since, but he never spoke much more than "hello" or "goodbye" to me. Then, this weekend I just found out that he dumped the girl for good (they were on-off for 2 months). The situation between us has been awkward since our "date" never worked out and I believe he is aware now that I liked him. Before my friend found out that he had started dating his ex, she passed my number on to him, but I'm thinking that he may not use it as he may think I'm over it all now. I have his number. SO, question is, should I use it? If so, what should I say and how long should I leave it before contacting him? Thanks

A reader, anonymous, writes (9 February 2009):

I think you should wait a little bit until you meet him again, you'll be better able to guage his thoughts by his demeaner towards you.

Plus a phone call out of the blue and right after he has finished a relationship could be a bit too much, seeing as ye rarely chat when ye see each other.

Its very soon after his last girl too, so he could be on the rebound, so wait a bit, then the next time you see him, smile and stop him for a chat and work a friendly suggestion that you and he meet up for a coffee or something.

Take your time and don't make the mistake of organizing to meet him with your or his friends on a night out etc. thats not a date and it's hard to get to know someone on a personal level in that kind of situation.
