reader, anonymous, writes (30 May 2010): It's very possible, and cold sores ARE herpes, just a different type, but mouth herpes CAN be transferred to the genitals too. Never give or receive oral sex if you or your partner has a cold sore. You should also be using condoms even for oral sex, yes i know it's tacky but hey rather be tacky and safe than be stupid and end up with some STD down the road right? You're young and it would be awful to catch something now that will stick with you for life like herpes. And if a guy has a problem with using a condom for oral sex, then he's not worth wasting your time on anyway. Lastly condoms don't have to be a mood killer for oral sex, there are so many different flavored ones now and flavored lubes, you might even like it more and no clean up!

 It might not be but visit your doctor to check it out. But if this guy isn't your boyfriend and he is just some guy you know, why take such a risk and give him a bj?  Dear Shankster - to answer your question - probably not - let's hope not - ok - take quite a while for the herpes virus to show up. Now that being said - the question that really begs to be asked here is this - WHY are you giving a oral sex to a guy that you "have known for a while."? This guy is not even your boyfriend - just some guy! What is up with that?
