I feel qualified, but why can't I get a break? why can't I get a job?

A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

It seems as though everyone else catches breaks but me. People always get other people jobs, and whenever I have been in need of a job, no one offers to help me. I did have a couple interviews at good places, I did great on all the testing and actual interviews, but I never ended up hearing from them again. A friend of mine works for 1 of the companies I interviewed at and she told me that she completely bombed her interview and they called her. She's also not qualified so I don't really understand. I do try my best to act friendly and professional. When I hear that someone got someone else they know a job, I get jealous because like I said I can never catch a break, although I usually feel like I could do the job better than the person getting hired. I am not conceited, but I am a really hard worker. I just feel so hopeless. What can I do?

I'd hate to tell you this, but sometimes people don't want qualified people, because they are afraid of these hard-working qualified people rising to the top, and taking their jobs! One of my friends didn't get hired for a long time, and now she works at JC Penny. Just wait a while.

I have a degree in Petroleum Engineering and it took me 3.5 YEARS to land the wonderful job I have now. I have rejection letters and plenty of failed interviews

it takes a long time to get a job that you want. Have you read up any information on interview skills? Possibly that could help you out.

if you don't get a job that means that you are not the right fit for what they are looking for. I am glad i failed all my interviews that have the one now.

It takes time and patience.

Have you had a friend look at your resume?

I have a interview book and one thing that interviewers find very important is that you seem truly interested in that company and the job. Do you ask questions? do you send Thank you letters? Are you kind to everyone at the interview including the security officers?

I hope this helps but you will eventually get that job. Be confident and it will all work out.

I hope this helps.
