It really takes time to get over someone better yet stop thinking about them.I don't know what's really keeping you apart but if the other person really hurt you,the pain will be there for a long time to come.There's really very little you can do to stop thinking about him but you need to train yourself not to feel so sad when you do think about him.It takes time and courage to reach a stage where thoughts of him don't affect you the way they are doing right now.Do things to get your mind off him and don't spend too much time alone.Loneliness makes the mind wander.

 You cannot stop those thoughts from entering your mind or cropped up. It is how you deal with them. It is like those pop up adverts on your PC. Just delete them and don't think about them.
In spiritual terms it is the Devil playing with your mind. An empty mind is a Devil's workshop.Keep yourself busy and you will not think of him.
You can never completely forget some whom you care about.
It may take weeks or months or years if you cannot let go ..
