A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend is enlisting in the Air force reserve and I want to know how long most people are gone for this? I know what they tell you but I know most of it is lies. So if anyone has gone through this or anything please? I'm not even okay with him leaving and don't know what I'll do without him but I'm trying to be supportive. So, the bitter truth about the air force?

A male reader, anonymous, writes (2 May 2012):

In the AF it's called an AFSC. And depending on that and his unit is what makes for long or short deployments. As a minimum he will have to do 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks usually in the summer for training. With today's wars there is a very good possibility he will be deployed overseas for anywhere from 30 days to 12 or more months. However the AF normally tries to keep deployments under 6 months with a 6 month break if possible. To many variables to tell you anything else.
