You cannot use an injury as an excuse to lay off- I think you sense that.

Depending on the type of injury, you may still be cleared to do a resaonable amount of treadmill walking- the cushioning level is much improved over roadwalking. Also take advantage of the incline level to great your heart rate to the correct ranges. Buy a heart rate monitor and a book on how to use it. Dont just depend on the built in pulse sensor on the treadmill and the ranges printed on it. You are putting in the effort anyway, you might as well do it right.

You might also consider swimming or water areobics.

And even if you werent injured you should be doing weight lifting. Get crack-a-lackn!

Bourne agony auntAlso try the bicycle machine or maybe rowing machine? On either machine you can favor your other leg and not use your injured one very much.

You can also work on your upper body strength while your leg heals. Muscle mass burns more calories when you are resting so just having more muscle will help.

Its really hard to loose weight if you can't get your target heart rate up for at least 20 minutes, three times a week.

If you really have a problem with obesity then talk to your doctor about other medical options. But you shouldn't do that until after you've exhausted everything else.

Swimming sounds like a good idea. A lot of people who are in rehabilitation for serious injuries start out in the pool because its low impact. It lets them use the muscle while its still healing.

Drink lots of water and walk as much as you can.

If you have been honest about counting calories and restricting your intake and you are not losing weight, you are at a maintenance level, and may need to go lower with your daily calorie intake.

You need to do something to get cardio vascular excercise for 20 minutes a day or more if you can stand it....Check with your doctor, but I bet you could sit on an excercise bike and do that as there would be no weight on your leg.

Also, swimming, same thing....I had a broken foot and those are the excercises I did while recuperating. Many weight machines are ones that you sit on or lie on to excercise the glutes, hamstrings, and upper body...don't use a leg injury as an excuse not to do the weight work outs that you can do.
