A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Me and my boyfriend live together with his parents and have been together for a few years now. His father is very close to him they are best friends, and now that it is getting to tat time that we have graduated, he doesn't know how to let go. He refuses to let go, if anything he is grasping on stronger and causing more problems in the household for everyone. I have been offered an apartment near a friend of mines, the only problem is, is that it will be about a 45 min. drive away from his dad or more.

This move would only be temporary anyway, but it would be the change and the moving out that would make the fuss...the place that is available is midway between his father and their singer in their band.. I find that this is a plus...(to help you understand)...So I guess what I am trying to get at here is how do I convince my boyfriend to move out with me get away from his father start his life and yet still be able to keep contact with his old one???

Tell your boyfriend about the temporary flat, tell him that you would like him to move out with you. But at the end of the day you can't force him, and you have to take on board that he enjoys being friendly with his father and he might want to stay at home. He is your boyfriend, but your not twins, your not joined at the hip. You must move out and grab this great opportunity and if he won't come with you, then you must leave him at home. Don't worry, he can still visit, and who knows... they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, some seperation might just give him the push to grow up and leave home.. Blessings
