Hi.I was wondering if i could learn how to train in beauty from by myself home or online ?. I'm interested in starting my own business, perhaps doing manicures or facials. I don't think i would be confident enough to do waxing. Is there any way i could learn this quickly ?. I'm hoping to have my own salon or work from home once i have had the training. Or are there any other beauty jobs you can suggest that are self employed that pay a good wage ?.

A female reader, Angzw Zimbabwe +, writes (11 January 2010):

England has thousands of online beauty therapy courses. Just google it. Then you can also enroll yourself for those short courses at your nearest vocational college for practical experience. After that, offer to work as a volunteer assistant for a couple of weeks at your nearest salon to gain some experience. Usually if you offer to work for free they have no reason to turn you down. After that, start with friends and family. If you are really good it will get around pretty quickly; most clients that therapists get are from recommendations from their friends. Give each client/ friend five cards to pass around to their work mates etc. Just make sure you know what you are doing to avoid getting a bad name or sued. Remember that not all beauty diplomas qualify for insurance companies to cover you. Some insurance companies will only cover you against damage claims if you have a specific examining board. So if you want to start anyway, you might need your clients to sign an indemnity form (awkward). Initially you can start in your home or doing clients' in theirs. Good luck
