How can I approach my mom about staying over with my boyfriend?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi everyone,

I need help with a moral issue. I'm headed home from college for winter break tomorrow, and I'm trying to figure out how to discuss something with my mom. I'll be home for over 6 weeks, and I was hoping to head to NYC to spend s few days with my boyfriend (he lives there). I know she won't approve, although I sort of feel that at 21 years old, it is my decision to make. I feel guilty because I don't want to defy her, especially because I'll be staying in her house, and I always felt that if I'm in her house, I should live by her rules, but at the same time I don't feel that it's wrong for me to go. Any advice? Thank you!
