I need help. I have a junk food problem and binge eating problem. I have a weakness for McDonalds and I have been there everyday this week. Somewhere down the line I stopped caring about how I looked because my acne was bad. Then I just stopped exercising and began a downward spiral of bad eating. It has gone on for about 2 or 3 years now. I always dream in my head about how good I could look if I ate right and exercised but I have no will-power or strength to stick with anything.

I am living with someone right now and they eat how they want to which is not really good for me. I wish I could ask them to change the way they ate but I can't it's their house and their ppl who u can't tell anything. So Im constantly around temptation to which I easily fall. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to stick to anything or what could help my love for junk food and just eating period.

You may already know all of this but here goes:

Make health your goal not low weight.

I would suggest starting to make small changes first to hopefully increase the likeihood of maintaining those changes long term. First, start a food diary, write down everything you eat for a week and try to add up the kcals - BE HONEST. Then either take 500 kcals from our overal kcal total and make that your goal e.g. if you were eating 3,500 kcals, try to start eating 3,000 kcals. Also try once a week to exercise for 10 minutes - i know, its not a lot of time but the key is to get your body used to it and also to start gaining a habit. Then after a few weeks make it 15 minutes or do 10 minutes on another day during the week too. The goal is eventually to do 30 minute workout sessions between 3 - 5 days a week. However don't rush in and do that over night because then you won't stick to the habit as you'll be exercised over kill. Each time you notice your weight stay the same for 3 weeks then take kcals from your kcal allowance and/or try to add a few minutes to your workout however you should not go below a certain kcal allowance and for women we are recommended to eat about 2,000 kcals a day (give or take a few kcals depending on body type and height etc). Also, just because you haven't lost weight doesn't mean you haven't lost fat - muscle weighs more than fat, thus you may be able to fit better in clothes or run a little faster than the scales suggest. Try not to focus on the number though i know its hard, i am guilty of stepping on scale about 10 times a day lol.

Another thing you could do is instead of going to Mcdonalds 7 times a week is aim to only go six times, then five, then four, then 3 etc etc and hopefully after a while you'll only go every couple of weeks or months.

It sounds like you have given up caring and maybe suffering from self esteem issues too - if you can, try to join a group or club (could be fitness related) that way you'll meet people and learn an activity thus hopefully your confident will increase and you'll be able to love yourself a bit more as weight may suddenly not be the only focus. There is nothing worse is a sense than being stuck in the house when already feeling low.

Also, you could perhaps speak to your doctor - he or she may have some advice also and may be able to come up with a diet/exercise rountine that suits you and your needs. I personally don't like the word diet because it sounds like at some point it is going to stop, i prefer making lifestyle changes :)

oh, may find out your BMI - that way you know whether you are by defination "normal" or not and if you indeed need to work on it. But don't be put off it you come out with a BMI of 40 (if that happens defo go to your doctor as you could be risking serious medical problems) but basically, it doesn't matter how big or small the number is because the journey of a thousand miles starts with but a single step so as long as you keep stepping and working at it, you'll get there in the end :)

I wish you good luck :)
