He said he couldn't balance a relationship whilst getting his life on track. Should I wait for him until he does?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

A year ago I got out of a long term relationship and finally found a guy that made me happy. He was everything I wanted so I let all my barriers down and threw myself out there. We dated only for a couple weeks, spending every night together. I thought everything was perfect until he broke up with me. Well I've been struggling dealing with the break-up because we both have feelings for each other and it hurt both of us. His reason for leaving was that he couldn't balance a relationship and getting his life on track. So how do I move on from someone that saw a future with me and got scared. He was afraid of falling for me and forgetting about where his life was going. I told him I would wait but is it worth it?! Feelings and people change. I haven't really heard from him recently and I don't even know what to do. I really want it to work.
