 That's a bit strange. Sounds like he's got a bit of insecurity happening where he needs constant reassurance. Is his home life a bit chaotic? Was he adopted?
If it gets to you, have a talk with him. Just tell him "you don't need to tell me to love you, and I'm not going to forget to. It means more to me to tell you that I love you without you prompting me to. Just relax and enjoy our relationship. I love you."
