He didn't call me as expected! Am I paranoid to think he was talking to his ex?

my b/f was dropping off his friend when i called and he usually calls me when he is driving home from dropping his friend off(he only has to do it for a few days)..well tonight he didnt and called me when he was home which was about 40 minutes later. I said oh how come you didnt call me from in the car when driving home. He paused for a second and then said i dunno, you don't really hear me well in the car, i figured i would wait. His car is loud But its not really true that i dont hear him. Mostly i do except for sometimes when he uses the headseat. It got me paranoid thinking did he call someone else like an ex before he called me back. What do i do?
