Dear Agony Aunts.

Does what you drink determine your personality, or class or the kind of person you are?

I like to drink a glass of red wine when I go out and have been told several times that it's bold and classy, great compliment, then with beer it's "common". I've started analysing this when i go out, and I've noticed it with different people.

I know its personal choice, but does what you drink reflect your personality?

Much Appreciated.

Mhm, I totally agree with DrPsych. I mean, I drink based on the mood and the situation. As for a woman drinking a pint of the bubblies, I don't care. Either or, it's a drink and nothing more.

DrPsych agony auntI drink Tiger beer and my nickname is 'Tigger' therefore it must be true...so drinking beer isn't classy?...back to the trailer park for me then ;-)

Joking aside, I think drinking only reflects certain aspects of your personality when it is in extreme. For example, the teenage girls drink alcopops because they think it makes them 'mature and cool' (whereas anyone over 25 thinks the stuff tastes like sugary rats poison). Most alcoholics that I have met in my clinical work have been drinking the hard stuff - whisky, extra strong vodka and diamond white cider. In this extreme example, their choice of drinking reflects their addictions and perhaps their addictive personality? Some women don't drink pints of beer because they think it is unladylike - I went on a date with a man once who was horrified when I drank a pint of stella...needless to say I didn't see him again as I don't do cavemen. I don't understand why receiving a compliment about drinking red wine is great to be honest. By all means drink it if you like it but anyone commenting on your choice of drink in a good or bad way is surely the most superficial snob on the planet, so why should their opinion matter?? (Alcohol related rant over now readers).

That's ummm very generic that you're pointing out. For myself, my preferred drink is Fladgate Port or Warre's Port. However, to savor those two fave's, I often just go for the simpler quick buzzers such as Rickard's Red, Kokanee, Sapporo, Asahi, and other foreign beers. Some of the more frequent drinks I get are usually Guinness, Samuel Smith's, and this other coffee stout I had once at Fogg N Sudds - very nice.

Once in awhile, I'll have a shot of something. In the cases where I just want to kill time with laughter and fried spaghetti sticks, I don't mind a classic with an olive or two. As for wines, I don't really like white wine. For red, I can take dry sometimes, that is if I am sexually excited... Hahaha... But I'll leave Port for that. 8]

Shiraz from Australia is really delicious for a cheaper drink over dinner. Red Label Cabernet is also nice. Let me think. Whiskey - I prefer Scotch. It's lighter and more inclined to go down easier. I like it straight more so than with the rocks. Johnny Walker Black Label is good enough for me.

Hmmm... Let me think... Sake, there have been a couple of really good cold sake's I enjoy. Urukasumi is one I believe. Don't remember the name/spelling.

Anyway, I have a broad range in taste. Ones I dislike are straight Tequila, Gin, Rum, coolers, and don't remember at the moment.

[wink]
