Does he have anger issues, or do most guys act like that?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Is it normal for a 21 year old guy who is a total video game freak, to get really - and I mean really upset when he is losing in a game?

He starts cursing so bad, over and over and then punches the couch if he loses. When I say "that sucks I'm sorry the game killed you" he doesn't get mad at me or anything, so I don't feel scared to be around him like that.

I was just wondering if most guys do that, or maybe he has an anger issue.

The upset and frustration of losing to other human players in a video game is similar to any sport in real life. The games that I've played are EXTREMELY competitive and I've seen many players become violent, not towards other people, but at themselves. One time, I even saw a player throw his monitor on the floor (yikes!).

As someone stated earlier, games offer a virtual escape from real life and when this virtual escape fails, it may feel as if the person has failed in real life. But I don't think that's his issue here. Sounds to me that he has a big competitive nature which is natural.

LazyGuy agony auntWomen on the whole tend to play games differently then men. We compete against others, women compete against themselves.

We want the highest score, women want to improve their own score. So we are defeated, women just didn't do well enough this time. A different set of emotions.

If he doesn't behave angry in other situations then there is nothing to worry about, he just gets involved in what he is doing.

Does he vent some of his anger at you when you are there or does he just punch the couch but at the same time is normal/nice to you? If so, then there is nothing to worry about.

How does he react if he looses in real life? Remember that games allow us to vent our emotions precisely because they are NOT real.

heh... it's not funny, but my brother does the same thing. i dont know if it's their escape from reality, much like a woman's bubble bath... except for the blood and punching of the couch..., or if it's just a release for them, but i only know that your guy is NOT the only one that does that! :)

Nah, its pretty much all guys. lol. They just get so caught up in the game, and they never think they are going to lose, and when they do, they get really upset. I dont think it has anything to do with their age either. MY younger brother does the samething, and even worse; my bf whos 21 is exactly the same way. Just let them be to play their games.

Guys are weird with stuff like that. =]

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Omg that sounds hilarious. Yes, games can be really freakin frustrating, especially when you are losing. I used to get really mad when I took them seriously. If he is playing online with a certain group, the competition can get pretty intense. Especially in first person shooter games like Halo.

I say he either has that or he's a sore loser over some-

thing that isn't even real.I mean it's just a game.It could

be reasonable to be dissapointed if he was trying to get to a further point in the game than where he usually is.But

unless he has anger issues or he's a sore loser, then there's no reason to act like that. But I'd say he's most

likely a sore loser.
