I'm looking for advices from both genders and all age groups, thanks! I have heard this saying a number of times already (mainly family and friends trying to give me advice): "Best mates make the best lovers."

Is that true?

A female reader, bex28 United Kingdom +, writes (7 May 2009):

It can be true. After all best mates are best mates coz they like the same stuff enjoy each others company and of course because they like each other. in my experience the problem comes if ever the relationship as lovers doesnt work. not only do you lose your best friend but you also lose your partner. also sometimes when you know somebody well enough to class them as a best friend it may feel odd to then after a long time of friendship become intimate. for me best mates are forever mates and never lovers. hope this helps
