A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

so i met this girl at a party over the weekend, we have been talking alot since then and we are going on a date later on in the week, shes very cool and seems so chill and not fake, i really like her but i just found something out that may ruin things...

starting next month she is moving to australia to study abroad until july! Should i just cut my loses and try not to get too attached for when she leaves or should i keep trying to see how far things go before she leaves. Im ok with a couple hours distance but australia is very far away for 5months! i dont know what to do.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (12 January 2010):

I'd date her until she moves but tell her you are not up for a long distance thing, or waiting around 5 months.

Girls just want to know where they stand so be honest about how you feel. Start with "I think you're amazing, and you're beautiful, BUT..."

If she wants to date you and keep it fairly casual then great, if she doesn't then she can always just chat to you as a friend and see where you both are up to when she gets back.

5 months will fly by so don't do anything stupid and ruin what could be a really great think when she gets back in the summer.

Good Luck!! xx
