Firstly ask him if he likes you too. If he does then he is probs just showing off infront of people.

The fact that he acts differently isn't a clear indication that he isn't interested. This can even be a good thing if he treats you in a special way.
The only way to find out what's going on in his head is to ask him. When you're alone, just ask him how he feels about you and if he's interested in the way you are. Simple as.

People who are like that drive me crazy! It all depends on how he acts with/ without people around. If he likes you alone, but not around others, either he's shy and afraid they'll make fun of him or he really doesn't like you that much and just likes your attention.
It really depends on what kind of person he is.
I'm sure I didn't really help much, but I hope I gave you something to at least think about :)
