I would really need some serious suggestions, from anybody with some experience to deal with drug addicted person.

My son is addicted to hard drugs and he is living a very self harming life. We are trying to help him, as he got himself in very bad health etc. But there are many suggestions, that helping a drug addict is not always, the best of the interest. I would do anything to help, as I love him more than anything, but how can I chose the right help? He is living with us, because he lost his place, he is nice, but still doing drugs... He is not even promising to quit them,.. He went to drug rehab for 3 month, but it never helped. It was a very expensive place... Now what I would really like to find out, if any of you know someone specially younger people who were addicted to drugs, but quit.

What made them quit?

Did they needed help, or they hit rock bottom, and came out alone?

Did they find something they liked?

Or none of this really the real help?

I do hear stories, but never really understand ,what made them quit, as there is so little chance that will do quit from anything.

I know people , who are loved , who are not loved who had a good job, and those who does not.

So what makes it happen? Thanks very much

I have lived with drugs (hard) and a drug addicted person for the past 17 years...I was married to him and he dragged me down with him! There is no magical cure infact there is No cure. You have to really want to stop, and sometimes even when you want to stop it seems impossible. I know this isn't what you want to hear but it is the reality of the beast. I watched my husband suffer and lose everything we had. I prayed daily for his recovery. I stood by him through five drug rehabs, just to return to the drugs as soon as he got out.

You mentioned hitting bottom. Yes sometimes a bad enough bottom can cause the user to fall to his knees and surrender. But it has to be his bottom not what you think is his bottom! A person cannot get clean because someone else wants him to...they have to get sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Rehab and Narcotics Annonymous helped me. But it wasn't easy. And to this day, I avoid dangerous places and people where the possibility of my drug of choice may be. I can say with all honesty I truly don't know if I would walk away if it was in my face! Addiction is a family desease. It affects everyone around him. All the suggestions you've heard ...try them...cause it's better than doing nothing! Above all, don't be an enabler! Don't think you're helping him by giving him money and making his life easier...he will never hit bottom. I suggest you seek counseling for yourself and other family members who are effected by the user. From there you will get other suggestions from a professional. My heart goes out to you. I know what you are going through, believe me.

My husbands story didn't end happily but there are so many success stories out there, and I pray your son will be one!

Good Luck and God Bless!
