Can my boyfriend be platonic friends with his ex?

A female United States age 51-59, *slandgirlkty writes:

I was upset when I realized my boyfriend's platonic friend was actually his ex. and he didn't tell me. I got emotional on the phone with him and asked for a break. The sent him an email explaining why I was so upset. I haven't heard from him in a day (long for us). Did I overreact? Was it valid for me to be upset?

It is possible they started out with confused feelings only to later realize they like each others company as friends rather than a couple.

I think it's reasonable to make exs off limits. I'm sure there is often a temptation to have sex with an ex if you hang out with them. Make it a rule not to hang out with exs one on one. If he can't do that, then you might want to say bye.
