I'm curious. Could someone find out where you live, or control your computer by finding out your IP Address? I clicked on a link and it said it wasn't working. I assume that someone is controling my computer. I am scared. Help me agony aunt.

childof1981 agony auntFor all practical purposes the answer to your question is no, your real address cannot be found using just your IP ADDRESS.

That said, law enforcement is generally able to ask ISPs/Telecoms to provide addresses with proper documentation. Also, serious hackers would likely be able to find out as well.

someone once showed me this thing that used my ip to tell me where i lived down to the suburb. I can't remember what the hell it was but it did scare the crap out of me... I'm not a computer expert though however i would be careful.

Another good download is 'Spybot', which will pick up anything that Ad-Aware misses and vice versa. Remember to check for updates once a week though!

A computer geek friend of mine recommends running these programs after every visit to the internet, which is a bit of a time-consuming pain but, along with AVG or Norton, should keep your computer free from problems.

Abacadaba agony aunti dont think people can trace where you live from your IP, and IP is basicly your computers address, meaning it can be identified, not where the computer actually is.

if you havent already, go get some anti-virus and anti spyware programs, you say somebody is controling your computer? chances are anything strange happening is a virus.

i suggest www.download.com and search in AVG free (anti virus) and Ad-aware SE personal (anti spyware) and just run these once a week and youll be fine.
