Boyfriend doesn't know what he wants anymore

A female United States age 30-35, *otyours118 writes:

my boyfriend and i met about a year ago and started dating within 2 months of knowing each other. i'm 18 and he's 17 and now we've been together for over 1 year.

when we first met everything was wonderful and has been up until last week. lately he's been hanging out with his friends a lot and leaving me at home. he's also been very distant with me such as less kissing, hugging, saying 'i love you's ect. it was not until a few days ago he said we needed to take a 'break' although he will not give any reasons. he just tells me he's unsure about everything. however, he still likes to call me and hang out with me. he's continually telling me he loves me and misses me. he even began dropping hints that i was his girlfriend, even though he hasn't asked me to be his girlfriend again. upon taking a myspace survey i was asked the question 'would you like to get back with an ex?' and i replied 'yeah, i guess you could say that' well let's just say he got angry. i guess he thinks he can be in a relationship when he wants and doesn't have to be in one any other time.

he's continually accusing me of cheating on him while we're separated but i've made it very clear that my feelings haven't changed for him. the only person's feelings who have changed are his? i feel like he's just keeping me around until he finds someone else, he's done this before. except this time, i'm not begging and pleading with him to stay with me. therefore, i feel like he will just walk out. the only reason i'm not begging and pleading is because it's ridiculous, if he doesn't want to be with me i can't force him. i also find it pretty absurd that he just all of a sudden doesn't know what he wants? i don't have time to deal with it. i told him i'd wait but i don't know how long i'm willing to wait. i want to cut my losses, but i'm addicted to him. i really am, and i know deep down i really don't want him to leave. he's my best friend. any opinions on why he's acting this way? or what you think he's really up to?

petina1 agony auntSounds like a typical scenario of 'He doesnt want you, but he doesnt want anyone else to have you'.. Also sounds like he's keeping his options open. It's the hormones, the age, they want every female they see. You sound like you are on the right track by not pleading with him to stay. My advice to you if you really want to keep him interested is to keep your distance and not be on his beck and call. Keep em mean, keep em keen. Really works. Don't be too available. You will see a difference if you have the strength to follow this through. Hope this helps.
