Mistify agony auntThe best way NOT to get pregnant, is to abstain. LOL,

now in that being said, you have a lot of ways to ensure you don't fall pregnant.

Using a condom or femidom (female condom)

The injection

The pill

The loop

Condom's or femidom's alone, are not entirely safe, because they might tear or break.

The injection - you can go for a two, or three month injection at your healthcare centre or clinic. This means you will need to go at regular intervals of either 2 or 3 months, and you will then be protected for either 2 or 3 months - one of these injections, i'm not sure which, takes away your period completely

The pill is something you take everyday, at the same time

The loop(IUD)- is a little device they insert through your vagina, into your womb. It is a LITTLE uncomfortable when they insert it, but works well.

The four methods i mentioned above are the most popular, but there are others, like cervical caps, contraceptive rings, other implants etc.

Not one contraceptive on this entire planet is 100% safe. They all have ratings of between 96 and 98%.

One thing to remember is to follow the instructions carefully.

If they say that certain medications - like antibiotics may contra-indicate your contraceptive, then you need to use extra protection during those times you may take antibiotics.

The best thing for you would be to go to a clinic or healthcare center, and ask them about the options available to you.

Good luck in finding one that suits your needs, and well done for trying to protect yourself from pregnancy. Just remeber that there are other risks involved in sex, like STI's. If you want to be totally sure, i'd use a contraceptive as well as a condom.

Hope this helps.

Abstinence is 100% guaranteed!! :)

Failing that, condoms and contraceptives (like the pill) are generally very safe (97% and higher success rates if used correctly). There are also implant and semi-permanent methods, such as injections and IUDs, which are also very effective.... your doctor will be able to explain which are the most appropriate for you, depending on your particular circumstances.

The most unsafe method is the withdrawal method, where the man 'pulls out' before ejaculation. This is because men actually produce a small amount of fluid before ejaculation that can/does contain quite a few sperm... and you only need one sperm to become pregnant!

The only other way, if you don't want to go with any form of hormonal control (like the pill) is timing, but this is risky also... You can download a free ovulation calendar from www.ovulation-calendar.net --- YOU enter your info (i.e. you long your menstrual cycle runs for -- 28 days, 24 days or whatever it is), and the software predicts the days that you are most/least likely to fall pregnant. This is NOT a guarantee though, although it's worked well for me for a number of years as I can pretty much set a clock by my cycle.

So, those are the options... best discuss all / any with your doctor. And, of course, condoms are essential for the prevention of STDs - no other form of birth control helps with these.
