Another rubbish night out. How do I get out of this mess?

Hi. I've had a really lousy evening on the town. I went to a club and I was completely bored. I was approached by a couple of girls tonight, and I did absolutely nothing. I just can't communicate in a club. The music is just too damn noisy!

Valentines day is coming up, and, as I do every year, I feel like I have to accept that I'm not going to be able to share the day with anyone. A month or so ago I had been seeing a girl for a few months, and I booked Valentines day weekend off so we could spend it together. Then a few days later, we're through. Now I have the weekend off with nothing to do.

Things just seems so rubbish lately. I can't find women outside a club, and when I do I can't talk to them. I'm single, and my ex girlfriend seems to hate me. How can I get out of this mess?

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (13 February 2009):

Clubs are rubbish places to meet people. All you can do is dance, snog, go home and have sex with and then never see them again.

They are giant meat markets.

If you want to meet girls then get out there! They aren't going to knock on your front door!

Join a group, volunteer somewhere, take up a new sport, talk to people at work, strike up conversations on the bus.

The key thing is to meet new people. They will have friends who they will introduce you to, it's about expanding your network so you go to more places and meet more people.

Good Luck!! xx
