BEST AUNT!

SexybumSexybum, posted over a year ago

Ok so we have the ranking system and it has been improved greatly, but before it was improved there was chances of rigged votes....

What I am interested in.. and I guess it will show peoples opinions and it will be interesting to see the variety that pop up here....

WHO do YOU think is the BEST agony AUNT on the site... it is each to there own and I'm simply asking cause I'm curious to see what people think. I think the more people who answer this question the better, why not praise the person you like... It is xmas!!!

My vote is Irish............

Awesome idea sexy bum - it's always nice to give praise to those who put so much time and effort into their answers!

I find I am always drawn to Dr Pete's posts....so he has my vote! :o)

Actually, I have quite a few favorite Aunt's, whose posts I really enjoy reading. So many wonderful advisors out there. I can only name a few and they are: (drum roll)

Bev's advice is Brilliant

Sally's advice is Superb

Pete's advice is Priceless

DrPsych's is Dazzling

Malyce's advice is Marvelous

Sexybum's advice is Splendid and

Yos's advice is uhmm..amazing! (sorry-couldn't think of a "Y" word. :))

There are too many to name but I love all of your insights and keep up the great work. Merry Christmas, one and all.

I usually find myself drawn to Pete's advice. He tells it like it is, whether the asker likes it or not. Irish has the same style, firm but compassionate. I also like Dr Psyche's advice, usually very detailed and gives reasons for the advice.

Awww, thanks guys! =)

Wow the people who most use this board each have a very distinct personality and are great in their own way. One thing I notice is that quite a few people have a particular issue or two that they can deal with in a better way, and that's great to see.

If I had to name just a few I'd say Irish for always reminding people that there is a strong, independent person hidden away inside of them that is often being suffocated when someone is experiencing pain in life. Seeing this strength is almost always a way of getting through a problem.

The second is martini for his more honest and to-the-point attitute, sometimes treating people with kid-gloves just prolongs their issue and they need a good kick up the ass, so to speak.

The third is Baby Girl for her particularly non-judgemental and caring approach to helping people, it's very question-asker orientated and sometimes people need most to feel understood to get through a problem.

But guys, you're all great in your own way, so well done to everyone!!!

- Hey wouldn't it be funny if we were all in the same room together in real life, I wonder how well that would go? I find it quite an entertaining thought!

Peter =)

Hey thanks... 8]

Well, actually this is a question with a diverse answer, at least I think so. As hinted in people's answers, everyone has their unique voices - especially the most noticable aunts/uncles on this site. There are of course, the cookie-cutter posters, but that's just whatever. Then the ones that seem to show a very defined version of them...

You know what? In short, I think you are all great - all good perspectives to keep me mentally/emotionally in check.

BTW, I had sushi last night. STUFFED! Wow, and for the first time in the history of going to sushi restaurants, I did NOT order a single bottle of alcohol! Not that it's something to be proud of... [raises eyebrow]

Correction WillyWombat, it's Martini and his obsession with Sushi and Cats! 83

I remember first being on this site and finding out that ...I really excel at rubbing people the wrong way.

As for being in the same room; my fat head would occupy more than enough space for some real convo to occur.

But it is rather entertaining to amuse over.

I like the way how, someone can ask a question and then you get all these different points of view from people of all ages. Opinions that you've never even thought of and then you go..."oh yeah, that's true you know." Or "I don't agree with that but I can see why you think that." And solutions to problems that make you go "Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that?" That's the beauty of internet advise. :)

So each and every agony aunt/uncle is helpful in someway to someone whenever they give a reply.

Well, this is rather late, but welcome Vina... 8]

As for Malyce_Synn72, actually, I think a lot of our first interactions with each other was my fault. I seem to get ultra-sensitive towards certain things, and I may use a thick black marker to underline "ultra-sensitive"? 8/

However, in the recent months, I've noticed that it's not just about a person's opinion on a subject, but it's a belief they follow. It sounds pretty obvious eh? Yeah, well, I'm not too obvious... [shrugs]

I think one person that I find really helpful without an angry undertone would be Dr.Pete. I wouldn't say he's the best, as the 'best advice' is relative to the subject matter and how accurate it is for the question poster, but he's like the warm sake that goes well with the tuna nigiri sushi, Ika Kirage, spicy tuna cones, and salmon sashimi... 8]

[laughs]

I think I can put a metaphor to almost anyone here... 8] Eddie reminds me of Sharks Fin soup with a dash of red vinegar. Stina reminds me of shrimp dumplings... Yeah... WillyWombat, oddly reminds me of Pineapples and Durian.

Enough of that... 8X

Stina gets my first vote. Her advice is always non judgemental and to me, answers the question in a helpful, tactful way and I love reading her replies and just cos we dont have the same beliefs, i.e Athiest and Christian, I just feel that she has the edge when answering posts and I ALWAYS agree with what she says even if I dont BELIEVE in it, I agree because she gets to the point.

I also think Irish49 has never ceased to give GREAT advice and Dr Pete's advice is ALWAYS helpful with NO spelling errors, unlike mine!!!!

Most of you guys are great, Dazzerg, b3x, Babygirl just to name a view, but if I had to pick ONE it would be Stina. xXx

Malyce I must mention, I love your frequent referrals to counseling in so many of your posts, it makes me chuckle sometimes. Especially when you capitalise the word for added effect! You should get some kind of referral commision!

I also also notice when you are maybe have less patience and really go for the direct "inadequately nurtured" approach, it's something people could never get away with in real life but usually I believe you are hitting the nail right on the proverbial head. =)

Yo Doc Pete, thanks for the compliments.

It is true that it can be easily discerned when I am flying in the low on tolerance for bull crap zone and from when I am feeling lovey dovey and forgiving.

It is usually based on if I can get some sense of remorse or if people just want excuses and support for their blatant disregard for others.

I am me.

Well, I would have to take some responsibility for some of those threads. Being baited into an argument in those porn threads and then having a slight dose of a heart attack with every passing anti-martini post, I believe that for example, in the current, there are two such threads with possibly that same anon female. I read her first line and I was thinking to myself, "No, no, no... Tempting, but no."

There's a saying my mom likes to use towards me in Cantonese, "You not being a lawyer is such a waste."

You know what though? Even though the more prominant aunts and uncles here use nicknames, we do have links and hints in our bios that show the world who we are and such. That's how I feel I can definitely put more regard and consideration into their same comments and advice. It's just that for those who link to their MySpace, Bebo, Hi5, blogs and such and speak a bit about their history and experience even without links in the bio, it shows so much more validity in their words. Especially when they show up here on DC and can give really helpful advice, or at the very least make comments that allow the question asker to think.

I miss her too! As this thread shows, not all the aunts stay.

What's interesting in this thread is the commonality of concerns.

For example: "I know this is about the 'best' aunt or uncle, but I would just like to mention the very worst. Those people who chose not to give advice but attack the advice others give from behind an anonymous stance. It drives me insane...if you have a view at leats have the b*lls to stand up and be counted for it!!"

And "I usually find myself drawn to Pete's advice. He tells it like it is, whether the asker likes it or not. Irish has the same style, firm but compassionate. I also like Dr Psyche's advice, usually very detailed and gives reasons for the advice."

and " I'd say Irish for always reminding people that there is a strong, independent person hidden away inside of them that is often being suffocated when someone is experiencing pain in life. Seeing this strength is almost always a way of getting through a problem.

The second is martini for his more honest and to-the-point attitute, sometimes treating people with kid-gloves just prolongs their issue and they need a good kick up the ass, so to speak.

The third is Baby Girl for her particularly non-judgemental and caring approach to helping people, it's very question-asker orientated and sometimes people need most to feel understood to get through a problem."

and

"Bang your heads together and you get great advice! There is fab variety from one aunt to another, so the questions asked here get blunt, straight to the point or even sympathetic answers. That's what I like about this place!"

and I can see why one aunt would say "BUT I don't like the muppets that ask the same question over and over again in a different format....."

It's nice to know that current aunts share similar thoughts and opinions as the ones who were here before.

Thank you for pointing out these old threads, Abella. It just goes to show that our aunts' sensibilities haven't changed much in the past years.
