How can I talk to my boyfriend about things that bother me with us or him, without him getting defensive or angry, and then telling me that it is all me or it is all in my head?

A reader, anonymous, writes (2 June 2005):

I have the same problem sometimes, but its my girlfriend that doesn't want to talk not me. Usually when we do talk she gets really upset and in the end I end up taking the blame for the problems because I don't like her getting upset.

Why dont you tell him you don't think its in your head? If this doesn't work tell him that you need him to help your problems (even if it's just in your head). This way he will try to change but not look at it as his fault, if this doesn't work it seems that he doesn't care about you enough.
