I think the lest messy handjob to give is to do it by standing next to him. I have done that but it's kind of uncomfortable to do and I think not as plesurable for him. You could try it though the first couple of time until you're comfortable with his "mess" and then you could do it in other ways.
Another way is to do it facing him and when he's almost goint to shoot, duck or move his penis the other way.
