Its best to go to your doctor and speak about this as different brands have diffferent side effects.

But yes it has been known to cause weight gain, and in some cases acne too.

But as I said its best to speak to a doctor about all this.

Many side effects, not everyone gains weight, the reason for it is because taking the pill is tricking your body into thinking you're pregnant, so you get cravings and eat more sometimes,,but not everyone gets that! Another is Acne, loss of sex drive, or more of a sex drive, fatigue, mood swings, its pretty much like being a few weeks pregnant.

Well, im on the pill and I certainly have gained quite a few pounds, I tend to have really fierce cravings for random things kinda like im pregnant only im not. I have moodswings all the time. When I used to get my period in the past it never hurt but now that I've been on the pills for 8 months so far and not only do I get bad cramps(which I've never experienced prior to my pill taking)I bleed a lot more than I used to. And for some reason I always feel tired now. But although these things happen to me maybe you'll be different, everyone is. But if you happen to get these syptoms start taking vitamin c pills and vitamin e pills it helps me. But although these symptoms are really annoying I think its worth it because having a baby in my life would be a lot worst cz im nearly 18.but remember one very important thing, the pill DOES NOT protect you from any stds so BE CAREFUL, I can not stress that much more. The percentage of people cathcing stds has been increasing every year, so " be one less". I have sex with my boyfriend unprotected but we've been together for a while and I know he doesn't have anything(I go with him to a clinic every six months when I go for check ups).

Well I hope this helps

A female reader, vsnod United States + , writes (18 April 2008):

vsnod agony auntIt can make some people gain weight and there are other things that your doctor will tell you about. It didn't make me gain wait and the nice thing about it is, you can predict when you will get your period almost down to the exact hour. If you want to be on it so you don't have to worry about pregnancy, you should know that you should still be using condoms anyway.

VegasGirl15 agony auntI'm not too sure about the weight thing but it does have effects on your body. The obvious reason too make sure you don't have kids . then it makes your period be regulated and shorter periods of time on your period. then some women get mood swings and stuff like that because of it . If you really want the truth and not be relying on what people who arent doctors think ( I'm not dissing the general public I'm just saying) then you should really ask the doctor who prescribed the pill to tell you all the possible side effects.

I hope this helped :)

Take care !

A female reader, crazykit666 United Kingdom +, writes (17 April 2008):

Do birth control pills cause weight gain? Should women take occasional breaks from oral contraceptives?

While the majority of women who participated in a nationwide survey of women aged 18 to 35 believe the answer to these questions is "yes," the fact is that the answer to both of these questions is "no." These are some of the myths that affect how millions of American women think about and use birth control pills.

"It's very important for women to be educated about the birth control pill so that they are able to base their contraceptive decisions on facts, not myths and misinformation," said A. George Thomas, clinical associate professor, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York City. "After 40 years of use, we take for granted that women are fully informed about the Pill, but I find that many of my patients are not. The survey results confirm that we need to do a better job educating women."

do a search on google, there's loads of stuff. basically, it depends what pill ur taking and even then its not set in stone xx
