How about having something special for him, but maybe you and him can make dinner together? You could do all the grocery shopping and have everything ready so you and him can enjoy some wine and good conversation while you make dinner. Maybe find out what his favorite dessert is and have that already finished. Making dinner together is nice because if something turns out poorly, you both can laugh about it and still order pizza instead of if YOU make something and it's gross and he just eats it because he feels like he has to. Haha.
