A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello im 18 years old and have been with my fiance for nearly 3 years.

During the beginning of our relationship i found out he had a brother and sister. His sister had 1 child a boy aged 2 and his brother had a girlfriend already with a child of 10 years old.

My partner played alot of football at the time and so i had decided to take his newphew (sisters 2 year old) to watch him play. Although i had to take the other child aswell so she didnt feel left out. During the match the young girl aged 10 kept running away from me also getting the young boy out of his pram and telling him to run on the pitch to my partner. (this could of hurt the child) I had told the young girl she was naughty and that i would be telling her mum. By this point she ran away where i could not leave the "Baby" on his own as he was 2 in a pram. When we arrived home after the match the young girl was already there. I had not met the childs mother until a big bang on my partners bedroom door. It was the mother of the daughter aged 10. She screamed and shouted sayin that i would be an unfit mother when i am older and that i have no rights saying her child was naughty for running away.

Now the mother had a 1 years old baby with my partners brother and i am not able to see him due to past experience of the girl running away.

WAS I IN THE WRONG?? HOW CAN I FIX IT ALL SO IM NOT MADE TO LOOK THE BAD ONE IN THEIR FAMILY.

Please reply i need help !!!!

Thanks

L x

no you are not in the wrong. But i would shy away form the word "naughty". i'm 25 when i was a kid in south Texas, you could say that, and whip kids that misbehaved now it's all about counseling the trubled child rubbing his belly and even when they are bad, make it not look so bad. This is what i would do go to the mother and say i'm sorry. not "I was wrong" kind of sorry but "I was just ONE person tring to watch TWO entergetic kid's" kind of sorry and let her know that you did the best you knew how to do. In hope this helps if not i'm sorry and i hope every thing works out for you and if you ever need to talk you can email me.

Ahh...a child can do no wrong in a mother's eyes.

I had a cousin once who threw rocks at me, and I swore at him for it (I was quite young), and when I got home, my aunt yelled at me for swearing at him -_- but gave no punishment for him throwing rocks at me.....spoiled brat.

ANYWAYS, that sounds like the sort of situation you're in. There's nothing you can do really, as her child in her eyes will never be wrong.

What I would do is to write a letter and explain what happened, give it to her and that it. Don't expect her to believe or forgive you, but at least let her know the truth.

Other than that, don't worry about it. She's the unfit mother, not you, and she obviously spoiled her child or she would not have behaved in such a dreadful manner.
