How long does it take for the pill to start working properly?

Im in a relationship with my bf, but we are waiting to have sex until I feel ready and until we have been together longer. Although Im not ready yet, I want to be prepared for when the time comes. So should i start taking the pill now?

It tells you in the instruction leaflet that comes with them. Mine says if you take it on the first day of your period the first time you take it, you should be protected immediately.

I stand to be corrected here, but arent you supposed to take the pill without interruptions for a month before it becomes effective as a contraceptive?? If you get sick and vomit or have a runny tummy or take antibiotics these all affect the pill and you should then take precautions????

If you are in doubt, please contact your dr and ask him/her to explain to you exactly how the pill works and its effectiveness.

Actually the last time my wife was on the pill the Doctor said that we should wait a month before having unprotected sex to make sure that it was fully working. Of course that was about 10 years ago so I'm sure the pill is better now.

You should pose that question to the doctor who wrote you the prescription, just call their office, I'm sure that's information they'll give over the phone.
