Should I leave my boyfriend to date my friend?

A female United States age 30-35, *oveWiz writes:

OK, I am in panic mode. I'll just fill you in: So, I'm kinda dating this one guy, Alex*. He's really sweet, and he's an awesome person to be around. But I've also got a great guy friend, named Tim*. Tim, whenever I mention Alex, always says "He's so lame! Why are you into him?". Recently, I decoded that into "Why aren't you into me?",. I asked him about, it, and Tim was really awkward, and later admitted to really liking me. I'm thinking about leaving Alex for Tim, but I'm torn, because my parents don't really approve of Tim, as they can't get past his tough outside, but he didn't grow up the best. He's really sweet and sensitive, though. I'm so confused! Help, please!

LoveWiz agony auntWell, Tim is so awesome, I can tell him anything, and Alex is just the same! Tim just is a bit edgier.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (26 October 2011):

You say that you are thinking about leaving Alex for Tim. What you need to be thinking about is 'why?'

You say that Alex is great to be around, and you are dating him already,so why would this change?

Would Tim make a better bf than Alex would?

The other answer is right in that these are all questions you have to ask yourself before making that kind of choice. Also, make sure you are confident in your answers and do not second guess yourself, if you are not sure it would be better to err on the safe side and not do it.
