Says he made a mistake, wants me back but I'm not sure of his reasons

Me and My live in boyfriend of 3yrs split up in October of last year. He was the one to end the relationship. We've kept in touch by txt eachother. He tells me that he made a big mistake and wants me back. That he still very much in love with me. He tells me that he signed up for the national guard and he maybe deployed. He says that when he comes back that he want to make a new start and get married. Im still very much in love with this man but im scared that he may get up and leave again or maybe he's just giving me a line because he may not want to see me with another man. I don't know if I should wait for him or move on.
