There is this 48 year-old woman who tries to get too invloved in my life. She acts like she wants to adopt me and treat me like a baby, and I am 20 years old, old enough to live on my own. I understand that she is only trying to be nice, but I don't want to hang around her or her kids. I have nothing in common with this woman, plus she tries to get her kids involved in the same activites that I am doing and have done. These people are just plain disgusting! I have tried to ignore them, but they still try to get in my face. How can I get them off my back without hurting their feelings?

Odd that you use disgusting and without hurting their feelings in the same breath.

It's not to many people who can lay claim to finding people disgusting and yet still not wanting to hurt their feelings.

Well, how about I think it's sweet how you feel this need to look out for me and take you under your family's wing but I like that I can be on my own and make mistakes as it is a part of learning.

I just would like you to treat me like a neighbour and not so much a relative as it makes me a tad uncomfortable.

No matter how you look at it; not all people like being told to bugger off but...it's honest and it will take a bit of "tough love".

Good Luck.
