My emotional boyfriend is cramping my style!

Question - (14 January 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 14 January 2011)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

How do I tell my boyfriend that I need more space? First of all, we go to school together. I'm usually busy with classes all day long and always have lots of homework to do. Him, on the other hand, is taking soley English language classes (he is from China) and has a lot more time on his hands than I do. We've only been dating for a little over 3 months, and he's been saying that he loves me ever since we first started dating, and he always says I'm his true love. I did really like him....but now he just kind of gets on my nerves and gets really moody sometimes. Anytime I see him, he ALWAYS wants to hold my hand. He wants to do every single thing with me. And then he gets upset when I don't plan on giving all of my free time to him. Like tonight, for example, I told him that I would go to his room for a while and take some homework with me. When I told him I had to leave by a certain time, he was confused and upset because he thought I was going to be spending the night, even though I had no intention of spending the night and neither of us had even mentioned me doing that tonight. As I type this I am in his room and he is just watching a movie and laying in bed and not talking. What am I supposed to do?? I'm used to being an independent woman who could do whatever I want, and now it's like I owe all of my time to him when I'm not doing schoolwork.
