A male reader, Stanley Cup United States +, writes (25 July 2007):

Start doing more things on your own for yourself. We all want to feel loved, wanted, and needed. But you have to love yourself first. No one will love you more than you love yourself. It is hard to do, but in every scenario of your relationship, step back and picture it with another one of your friends and their partner instead. If you can do this, then think of what advice you would give your friend in that situation, and then use that advice for yourself.

Some other advice is to be more independent. Find out what you like and spend your time and energy doing more of those things by yourself. If you do this, you will not have the time to be so needy.
