A female reader, anonymous, writes (13 December 2007):

Its not true that you can't change your body. I know several people who went from scrawny to buff. My boyfriend, for instance, has a beautiful body but he had lost some weight recently and started to look a bit skinny. Even so he has an awesome frame. In any case, he recently started working out hardcore and his arms and body got so much bigger. This happened in a matter of a few months.

Well first off you NEED to increase your calories and your protein intake. And you may also need to increase your weights at the gym. Like try to get at minimum three decent servings of protein a day. Have a piece of chicken for lunch. Lean steak or fish for dinner. Eat eggs for breakfast. Eat a few snacks a day in addition to this. The protein is going to help you build muscle.

You also need to increase your fat intake. GOOD fats like peanut butter and nuts. Make a protein shake every morning with peanut butter and protein powder and banana and whatever else you like. Be CONSISTENT about your eating habits.

So make sure you eat at least 3 meals a day or more that all have plenty of protein in it. And don't forget the fat.

Now here is what my boyfriend does. He jogs 8 miles a day. And he does 5 sets of weights for each muscle group. He does different repetitions depending on what he feels like doing. Like he will do about 5 sets of 30 pushups. He does like 3 sets of 50 sit ups or more. He does like 5 sets of 20 or 30 arm lifts. And all these other different arm exercises. He says his secret is that he does 5 sets each.

And make sure to increase the weight every now and then. I mean start out doing what you can. But once you get comfortable at a certain weight make sure to increase the weight and the amount of sets you do. And don't be afraid to push yourself. I mean work at it hard enough so that you really feel the effort. Make sure that for your last rep your muscles are really burning. Like it feels really hard to do. And just find the energy within you and finish it.

And be consistent. Don't give up. Just keep at it every single day. Keep pushing yourself above and beyond. Don't hurt yourself of course. But do push yourself and be consistent. And keep challenging yourself. Don't keep doing the same amount of weights but rather increase them as time goes on and as you get stronger.

If you follow my advice to a tee I have no doubt in my mind that you are going to see huge results as fast as in a couple months. Good luck.

A female reader, pgissyd United Kingdom +, writes (13 December 2007):

pgissyd agony auntJust because you have a lean body, doesnt mean there is anything wrong with you. To be honest, you sound HEALTHIER than your cousin, because to build up his buffness he would have had to pile on the calories carbs and fat, just to have something to turn into muscle. Your better off the way you are, and probably are a lot more buff than you realise.

Plus its all down to you genes, if its in your genes to be lean you will be, nothing you can do to change that.

Speaking as a woman in general, I cant stand the guys with rippling muscles, I like my guys natural thanks very much :D

If your looking to impress girls with your body then your one step ahead of your cousin, as though women may go crazy at a hen party over some guy with rippling muscles, with life partners, and other serious relationships, Girls would prefer the leaner type, ie your body shape.

For years and years people have had various issues with the way their body looks, yet they never seem to realise how attractive they actually are.

Take a good long look in the mirror and learn to love your body for what it is, appreciate the fact you can fit into jeans 3 or 4 sizes smaller than your cousin, and take note that if he stops working out, it will all turn to fat, but yours wouldnt xx
