A reader, anonymous, writes (17 September 2010):

Try the American Field Service. I know people who studied abroad through them, and they had a wonderful time.

You can also talk to your high school counselor about it; usually administration will know about educational travel opportunities like that.

If you go to college, you'll also have plenty of chances to study abroad for a semester, or even the whole year, while earning college credit toward your degree.

Study abroad and international travel can be very expensive, but by shopping around with reputable organizations, you'll find something reasonable. Keep in mind, round-trip airfare runs from $600 to $2000 in the economy/coach class alone, so this is definitely not something to do at the spur of the moment.
