I have trouble sleeping...

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

This isn't a relationship question, and don't ask me to see my psychiatrist, cos some time I will get around to seeing her, it's just I've been so busy lately. I've been on Lexapro for seven months. I still have trouble sleeping sometimes, leg twitches, and I have gained up to 26 lbs. I either feel ok or not okay (it alternates.) I know that a person can't be happy all the time, but I'm wondering if I should throw in the towel with this medication? If I should taper off of it, and just try something natural? I'm on twenty mil., and I've heard that ne thing past twenty milligrams can cause mania.

I'm also wondering if it just feels like it stopped working cos some days ago I wasn't taking it every night like I should've been, but now I've gotten back on schedule. It also makes me feel lazy. Sometimes I feel like I want to take more. I've had dream/s where I had more than I should've. I've just been in a hurry for about a month or two to get off of it, like a man in crutches eagerly wanting to walk. What do you think? Should I give it more time? Or should I try something else? Or should I taper off of it, but while I am tapering off, not take ne thing else, so that I will know that whatever effects I get are coming from withdrawing and not the side effects of something else? I'm thinking of switching to St. John's Wort. I know that that has side effects as well, and it would be a bummer to take something three times a day, instead of the one time a day I take my Lex.

My mom has hypothyroidism, but I've seriously considered hyperthyroidism being a cause, because I read where ten percent who had it gained weight. Thanks for your advice. I appreciate it a lot.

Speaking as a nursing major. I would suggest having blood drawn for potential hormone imbalances. Also I have read a bit about restless leg syndrome (RLS). But even hyperthyroidism can be a factor. So if one Doc does not do well for you try another. I personally tried three before finding my match for bipolar. Hang in there.
