writes:I need some advice from anyone with any knowledge of this subject if possible.Me and my boyfriend have decided to try for a baby. However, he has genital herpes so we can rarely have unprotected sex. I don't want to put myself in any danger of catching this, as I know it can be bad for baby as well as me. We've decided to try only when I'm ovulating but even this is a risk.Is there anything to doctor can do for us? What about a 'turkey baster'?! Thank you.

reader, anonymous, writes (3 May 2008): Its people like you who give the wrong facts about catching herpes that are helping innocent people catch it. It is very possible to catch herpes even when there are no symptoms (blisters etc) due to viral shedding. There is a lot of advice out there on viral shedding and how to minimise the risk of becoming infected, so for those of you who read the previous message don't take one persons badly informed advice.

A doctor cant help you but a fertility clinic can so check out your nearest one and make an appointment to see them. Regular doses of Acyclovir tablets, Zovirax should be taken at the first tingle. This can help your boyfriend to control the outbreaks as I sense they usually happen when he is tired or under stress.
You can ony catch the herpes if he is in full blister.Not when he is free of an attack.
