A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *ataliaCazo writes:

Hello, haven’t been here in a while but I’m just sick of everything at the moment and I’d rather vent on here than to anyone in person. I really struggle to open up to people and I feel that by telling someone I don’t have the problem, because it’s so secretive.

I can’t stop making myself be sick. I dislike absolutely everything about my body. I cant stop thinking about fat and calories, daily intake BMI hip to waist ratio. I over analyse everything I notice things about my body that other people don’t. I’ve let things slip accidentally and people just look at me, so oddly and I realise it’s not right. I just can’t stop thinking about it. I’m not underweight though. Well, I am according to “BMI” but it’s all just irritating me. I just want to eat something with out feeling guilty. I just came back off holiday and ate a piece of bread everyday for two weeks. As soon as I came home I pretty much binged and for the past week all my mum has done is dig at me because “all I do is eat” So imagine what she’d be like if I went to the doctors about “not eating properly” ...

I really don’t know what else to say, it makes me uncomfortable talking about it

sunnycomet agony auntMy advice to you is you shouldn't hate your body. Find something you like about yourself and concentrate on that. Maybe you have really pretty eyes or nice hair.

You shouldn't worry that much about calories and how much you eat and should consider what type of food you are eating. Try eating lots of veggies and fruits and drink lots of water. Don't forget your body also needs protein, calcium etc. Talk to your doctor about your diet and what they consider to be an effective diet that gives your body what it needs. Staving yourself is not healthy and will only damage your body!

You should also try exercising 10 mins a day. Maybe go for a walk...I find it very relaxing.

Don't hate yourself and try to relax and enjoy life. Find what makes you happy that is healthy. Tell yourself everyday that you are beautiful and what your good points are. Good Luck!

A male reader, EllsworthT South Africa +, writes (24 August 2009):

Most people don't like the way they look, and, if you'd stop obsessing about yourself for a minute, you might see that there are a lot of fat and just plain ugly-looking folks out there. But they get along fine and have relationships. Some even produce fat, ugly children.

First, you need to lower your standards. If you think Brad Pitt is going to date you, you're probably wrong.

Second, you need to realize that there is a fat person inside you trying to get out. I'm sorry, but you need to enjoy eating and try to let yourself go. Make going to a gym a habit, but don't obsess about it. Realize you will get fatter and uglier as you get older AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

Third, find lonely fat and nerdy kids to go out with. I GUARANTEE you there are plenty of guys who want to go out with you right now no matter what you look like. They would cut off their arms to serve you. Surround yourself with these people, not Brad Pitts.

Fourth, live for yourself and not other people. You are what Ayn Rand would call a second-hander. Stop living your life to meet other's expectations.
