A female United Kingdom age 30-35, Annalisa writes:

Right, people, this is how it works:

Men have penises connected to testicles full of sperm, when a man gets aroused, he gets ready to shoot sperm.

Women have vaginas, which are connected to a womb and two ovaries. On an average of 9 days a month, every woman's body relieses an egg which makes its way to the womb.

If the man's sperm and the woman's egg meet, chances are they're going to make a tiny embrio. Within a week the embrio will have a heart-beat and a rudimentary brain.

Here's the deal:

whenever you're contemplating having a sex-life, whether you're 12 or 45, think about the possible consequences.

Could you cope?

Chances are, if you are under 23, you probably would not want to deal with pregnancy, children or abortion.

So, if you can't keep your knickers on, be prepared!

Be ware that no method of contraception is 100% effective!

If you are a woman, learn about your body, find out when you're likely to ovulate and do not have sexual intercourse during that time. It's only a week, so you can manage. You can still kiss and cuddle and even have oral sex (no, you cannot get pregnant by swallowing)!

When you think it's all clear, take a condom and put it on your man's todger. Be in charge: it's your body, your life.

If you're a man, be interested in your partner's body clock.

Don't expect her to deal with it alone, because if she ends up pregnant, it'll be your flesh and blood too.

Put a condom on whenever you want some fun, unless you are both committed for life.

Last but not least, get to know your partner well before you have sex with them. Too many people get stuck in abusive relationships just because they gave too much too soon.

Before you jump in at the deep end and swear undying love, look out for signs of violent behaviour, selfishness and general unpleasantness.

If you're not getting respect and affection or you just don't get on in your every-day life, sex will not make things better.

God bless you all!

LazyGuy agony auntForgot one detail, sperm stays alive for up to a week inside a woman's body. So the "danger" period is far longer.

A male reader, DoubleM United States + , writes (29 March 2008):

DoubleM agony auntVery good input "Annalisa." But, by circumstances of aging, I have discovered what works for me as a man.

First, attain the age of about 50 or more, and the young women don't want you anymore. Therefore, the pool of available women with any interest generally has passed menopause and cannot get pregnant, nor do they have periods to worry about. They are typically less active sexually, or at least much more selective and thoughtful about with whom they interact, and are rather unlikely to pass sexually transmitted diseases. So, as we all must discover soon enough, age has at least some advantages - it is 100 percent effective against unintended pregnancy after a certain time, which definitely seems to liberate many older women regarding enjoying sex more, and older men (even if still fertile) can enjoy without such concern providing we can still get it up. In that sense, maybe with a little help from Viagra or Cialis, a great sex life can really begin after 50. Trust me, it can be a lot of fun !
