What am I craving right now?? O-Henry chocolate bars!! (love em) Do I need them? Are they good for me? Let's see..chocolate comes from cacao beans. And we know 'beans' are vegetables! And then also, there is milk in chocolate..right? Dairy product! So in my quest to eat in a healthy way, maybe I'll raid the halloween leftover stash in which there are those little, yummy mini-O henry bars. Ah heck, who cares-healthy or not, I am having one or two or three.... *getting up and walking briskly to the kitchen pantry* lol

And chocolate. But I'm always craving that. It's more of a default setting than a craving, really.

I'm craving vanilla birthday cake. Don't need a birthday to enjoy the cake...I want to eat it in bed without my kids begging me for a bite, and I want maids to clean any crumb mess I will probably make, and ask me if they can get me anything to drink. Oh, wait, that would more "wishful thinking" rather than a craving, huh? DAMN! Ok, I'd settle for cake in bed:)

I know it as kielbasa sausage. It's a Polish import to North America. Delicious grilled.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kielbasa

Pierogies, oh heavens, those are sheer comfort food. They are like little dumplings filled with potatoes, maybe also cheese and different ingredients. They are outstanding sauteed with onions and browned butter. YUM!!!! They are hugely popular around here too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierogi

Now Irish has me on this. Uncle Phil, I think you would really enjoy both delicacies.

Irish! You have a slavic background? Or lots of Polish and German neighbours, like everywhere else in Canada!!! I though you'd be sticking to corned beef, cabbage and bear claws. Down here in Chi-town, we have to eat beef hot dogs and deep-dish pizza!

;-D

I remember my last neighbour in Mississauga invited me over for a neighbourhood Perogi making party. She would do this a few time a year and fill her freezer, whoever participated took home a fair share just for their hands and effort! Fun! God those things are good.

I'm craving a smoked meat sandwich and potato latkes at Ben's in Montreal.

OMG!

And a Molson Dry. My hubbie was CFO for them for a while, and we used to get and allowance of a two-four a week...

My kind of "take-home pay".

MMmmmmmmm!!!

Making perogies is a good way to spend time with my daughters, chat, and goof off in the kitchen. But the best...is devouring them...smothered in onions, bacon, with some kraut and sour cream....MMMMMM.

Uncle Phil...you're invited over for some, some time.

Oh god no, not slavic, Birdy. I am just a crazy irish-canadian, who loves to pig out on fattening, delicious polish/ukranian food! lol

Those ukranian 'babas' are the most amazing cooks. And you are correct, Canada has so much diversity with different cultures. A lot of ukranians settled here in western Canada, back in the day and brought this knowlege and ability to cook up a storm! Amost hospitable bunch of folks.

And yes, I have made perogies by hand, and it is the most time-consuming finicky job I have ever done. Never, ever again. So now I resign to the wonderful pleasure of eating those lovely little dumplings.

Potato Latkes are fantastic! German origin, isn't it?

I'm not sure with the latkes, but the are in all the good Hebrew Delicatessens in Montreal, like Schwartz's and Ben's. Ottawa has Nate's and Kardishes, and we once went to one of their family weddings, Wow, what a spread...

Ohh, fade, that sounds sooo good. How come tomatoes taste different in the Mediterranean? The ones in Turkey, yummy.

Hey!! Quesadillas with cheddar cheese, peppers (ha!), scallions, served with fresh salsa made with tomatoes, cilantro (that's the leafy coriander), lime juice, hot sauce and salt and pepper, and a dollop of sour cream. (that was dinner last night)

And watch out, how did my bits get into this one????? :^)

At least I got pepper in there twice---teehee. Sorry, Diovannie, I need to find an ingredient that suits you.

Diovan - you mentioned scallops. I have to tell you I'm a scallop expert, having picked up a few off the seabed whilst diving and then having them for breakfast. The following recipe uses 3 scallops and 2 thick cut bacon slices per person.

Frying pan. Smokin' hot. Drizzle a little olive oil into it. Chopped up bacon slices - fry for about two minutes max. Add about a teaspoon of fresh grated ginger root. Add the scallops and fry for no more than 30 seconds then turn over and fry the other side for 30 seconds. Serve on their own or on a slice of buttered toast. Fresh grated sea salt and black pepper to taste. Bloody delicious!
