no suggestions???

, posted over a year ago

in cupids lounge i made a suggestion to better the site imo...that aunts on Automatic Approval should be maybe more carefully selected or removed from Automatic Approval if they get offensive towards anyone. or prehaps the system needs a change...

it was a humble suggestion and meant with no malice, i just thought it may help stop frustrating and nasty situations arising in future as it had just done.

i wasnt talking life or death i was just making a kindly suggestion.

in return i was sent a message admitting the flaws in the site but told if i dont like it then maybe i "should consider leaving"

i was told this is an evolving site ...and this here forum (site suggestions) suggests we can help with that.

it seems like there is alot of personal attacks...which is why i thought better protection would help...im quite a strong person, can take it , goes straight past me. but there are alot of vulnerable people who use this site, which is its purpose.

Hi, aunts are put on auto-approve after they have demonstrated that they give consistent advice without being hurtful, abusive or insulting of our posters. This status is earned and is not a permanent privilege. There are so many answers coming through DC that having everyone on manual approve would be a huge burden on the already stressed moderators, who are volunteers here. They get paid nothing but our thanks.

If you think you have a better system, please feel free to post the structure here so that Andrew ("DearCupid") can see if it could be used here. The site has been a work in progress since its start and Andrew has implemented many changes to improve the experience for all users.

Alas, this is the internet, where a few nasty people do try to ruin the experience for others. I recognize that there are vulnerable people here and we volunteer mods do our best to keep those from being hurt by nasty or abusive answers. The aunts here are providing advice, taking time out of their day, offering their opinions on others' situations or problems. Not every message is going to be what the poster wants to hear, obviously, but if there is an abusive or nasty post, please notify one of the mods or PM me if needed, so that the offending post can be removed. This has to be done within a day of the post going up, or by then it has to be removed by the site admin, DearCupid.

Hope this helps!

you know yourself that you are not a serpent waiting to strike.

i dont have a better system to offer...what i did suggest in cupids lounge is that the prossess of selecting aunts for AA is a little bit more exclusive to those who steer clear of controversy or patronising...or in this persons case aunts who tell people that they are serpents and basically bad human beings.

and also that if someone does abuse AA with nastiness have it removed. this was my suggestion.

what just kinda bit me was that it was suggested to me that i should consider leaving the site simply for making this suggestion. my initial reaction was too leave the site not because of lack of faith in the AA system but because after all that has been said and done i felt exasberated at that letter and felt that i am not wanted here just for asking and saying it was unfair that i couldnt post replies on my own post even others were allowed to be derogatory to me, and also for suggesting that maybe AA needs reviewing a little.

i understand that these people are volunteers...arent we all? none of us here are getting paid for spending our time and giving our advice...we do it because we want to ...all of us...want to help.

i decided not too feel pushed off the site, too many people are telling me that i am helping them in their problems, but i do want my experience to be heard. maybe i dont have a better system...but will the system ever change if noone speaks out of bad experiences if they dont have better ideas for the system...maybe someone who has more knowledge of net sites and has more control over those issues will be able to take on board peoples experiences and work at making it better ...isnt that what this section of the forum is for?

i understand being able to remove offensive posts but you cant remove the effect they have already had on people, this is where prevention is better than cure :)

of course not all posts are going to be what the poster wants to hear and noone can know what the poster does indeed want to hear...i have given similar advice on a few posts and sometimes i am thanked and told i was helpful and others someone who gave extremly opposite advice is thanked, thats whats so great about this site. there isnt one answer there are many to choose from....but its the negativity that slips through from AA that bothers me, or rather bothers people who it could actually hurt more.

thanks for the reply tisha

Thank you, Calico, for your feedback and suggestions. In speaking with site admin, they are aware and has taken all your concerns onboard. It's their hope to always keep DC a safe place to go, for people with life issues. And all recommendations from the readership and it's members is always welcome.

Much appreciated, Calico. Carry on troops, we have postings to answer, out there! :) Have a great day, all!

lol have you ever read the book "flat stanley"?

Its about a boy who is completely flat. He becomes flat after being squahed by a notice board above his bed.

I vaguely remember him being put in the post, and sent to america.

Wish I was there, Mal. But I too had an amazing country life. with paddy fields, mango and papaya orchards, flower gardens, dancing in the rain, numerous festivities and so much more. We had a russian jeep and two bullock carts with four pairs of oxen.

And yeah, I love maths too. Especially trigonometry, exponentials and calculus. Calculus rocked! And so did geometry.

well i didnt like geometry...i do love history and etymology...but not english in the upper grades. When you get into superlatives, gerunds and those things my brain go into revolt. Nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, direct and indirect objects, adjectives...i can handle but past that i dont enjoy.i love words though..todays word is gargatuan. ;)

How to Bathe a Cat

Dear Cat Owner,

Following are instructions on the best way to bathe your cat:

1. Thoroughly clean the toilet.

2. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and have both lids lifted.

3. Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

4. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape). CAUTION: Don't get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out to grab anything they can find. The cat will self-agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from your toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet 3 or 4 times. This provides a "powerwash and rinse" which I have found to be quite effective.

6. Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

8. The now-clean cat will rocket out of the toilet and run outside where he will dry himself.

Sincerely,

The DOG

"Hang on a second, I have to put out the cat," says the fireman.

The nicest sound a cat makes: vroom bump bump vroom.

I love cats! But I can't eat a whole one.

How do you make a cat go "woof"? Gas and a match.

"But mom, I don't like the cat!" "Shut up and eat your dinner."

If you throw a cat out a car window does it become kitty litter?

Q, as for putting it in the toilet to wash it, my cat actually gets in the bath on her own. She has a thing about drinking bath and shower water.... urghh.

I'm remembering a sermon a few years ago in which my minister was talking about the souls of people being different from animals, how people have this deeply spiritual connection to God. He at one point said, "...connection that animals like dogs don't have. Well, cats do, but that's to the dark side."

The laughs and grumbles in the audience clearly identified who the cat people were.

Truth be told, I don't hate cats. There's even one cat I know that I rather like. (Just the one.) But the smug self satisfaction, the superiority complex, the resistance to any affection except on their own terms and time table, I dunno... cats are just too fond of playing hard to get. Dogs aren't terribly bright, but they're openly happy to see their owners.
